Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

Brave New World-The movie

This 1998 film titled "Brave New World" is loosely based off of the original book "Brave New World". Though there are some slight differences their goal is the same and that is they are both criticizing the fast pace of the futuristic technology and the dangerous outcomes that can result out of it such as corrupting its people and destroying instead of preserving the goodness of mankind.

"Soma" by The Strokes

This song was in a way influenced by Brave New World because it describes soma to be somthing that is used to hide away the pain people suffer but really it just covers what's on top and never cures the pain inside proving to be sort of ineffective.

The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

Smallville Episode called "Metamorphosis"

This episode of Smallville is influenced by "The Metamorphosis" because a pathetic and lonely kid named Greg Arkin transforms after a meteor infested with bugs goes into contact with him. What's different about this and the original is that the transformation into a bug actually gives him the ability to become this powerful creature with bug superpowers although he uses it for evil. Again this shows the satirical idea that people treated badly by others turn out to become the bug they are being treated as.

 Pet Sematary by Stephen King

In Pet Sematary by Stephen King the protagonist's wife fed her sister Zelda who had spinal meningitis. The family was ashamed of her and wanted her to die. They were relieved when she finally passed just like when the Samsas were relieved when Gregor finally passed. Both of them satirize the cruelty of people especially family.

The Stranger by Albert Camus

Song: Killing An Arab-The Cure

The composer of this song, Robert Smith, said he was directly influenced by Albert Camus's "The Stranger and that he thought killing an arab was a big part of the book so he made a song for it. The lyrics explain itself:

Standing on the beach
With a gun in my hand
Staring at the sea
Staring at the sand
Staring down the barrel
At the arab on the ground
I can see his open mouth
But I hear no sound

I'm alive
I'm dead
I'm the stranger
Killing an arab

The Stranger Movie
